Clean beauty, more than just a trend?

Clean beauty is the new keyword in the cosmetics industry. However, it is not just a fast-moving beauty trend, but rather an entire movement. Basically, clean beauty is not a regulated term like “organic cosmetics” or “natural cosmetics”. Manufacturers therefore decide for themselves which philosophy they follow and how they individually define the term.

In the industry, clean beauty often stands for animal-free products that do not contain certain controversial ingredients. Or ingredients that have a negative impact on the environment and are suspected of having consequences for our health. This is because we, and therefore our skin, are exposed to more and more stresses such as UV radiation, oxidative stress and air pollution in our everyday lives. This often leads to increased skin sensitivity. Sensitive skin has therefore become a more important topic than anti-ageing.

The “clean” in Clean Beauty does not stand for “better than”, but for “free from”. Clean Beauty does not mean “natural”, “vegan” or “free from any synthetic ingredients”, but provides guidance when shopping. It is an indication that modern manufacturers are creating a new awareness of what we actually put in and on our bodies. The skin is the largest organ of the human body, so it’s no wonder that we also absorb toxins through it. Fortunately, consumers are also increasingly concerned about their skincare and its ingredients and generally want more transparency and sustainability from the cosmetics industry. Clean beauty is the right step here to make our skincare routine more mindful and safer and to raise awareness of cosmetics and their ingredients.
